The collection consists of one scrapbook (1857-1865); 14 ledgers (1860-1888); 9 daybooks (1874-1897); one invoice book (1878-1881); 2 cash books (1879-1889); 2 cotton record books (1880-1902); one general record book (1881-1882); 2 volumes containing bills of lading (1881-1888); and 4 journals (1890-1906). The volumes relate primarily to George Owen's management of the general store at Pilcher's Point but include some records kept by Shapley Owen which pertain to his activities as a planter of Owenton Plantation.
